Day Twelve
Of course we were sad to be leaving Japan, but knew a good breakfast was needed to get us home happy. The Metropolitan breakfast had a wide array of good options, including rolled natto, a congee station, and various offerings from east and west.
We had a bit of time to kill, so stored our luggage while we explored a nearby mall. Some last minute shopping, a matcha cup and some more stationary later, we worked up an appetite. As always, the prevalence of great cuisine in every corner of Japan is impressive – at the top floor of the mall was a well rated restaurant started by one of the unagi sourcing companies themselves, Unagi Yondaime Kikukawa. The unagi was comparable to the famed Mitsubishi place from our first trip, and totally hit the spot.
Finally, we made our way to the airport. We still had some leftover yen, so tried to spend it all on various souvenirs – Royce chocolate, weird banana pastries, and a few other things. By this point we were pretty worn out, so weren’t taking many pictures, but the Royce chocolate was definitely a hit! Our meal on the plane was a nice fusion for a trip from Tokyo to America, hambaga steak lunch set.
Finally at home, we got our dog who was absolutely passed out from her own staycation at Camp Run-A-Mutt. Who knows what kind of adventures she got up to, she never writes a blog herself.
